Outpatient Program
Our Outpatient Program is designed to provide pasteurized donor human milk to infants who have a medical need for human milk outside of the hospital, as well as babies who need temporary supplementation while breastfeeding is being established.
Who Can Benefit
Babies with Complex Medical Conditions
Pasteurized Donor Human Milk (PDHM) can play an important role in supporting the health and recovery of infants with certain medical conditions, particularly after hospital discharge. Condition examples include:

Prematurity

Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome)

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC)

Gastrointestinal (GI) disorders or feeding intolerance

Families Needing Short-term Supplementation for Their Infant
Common conditions for short-term supplementation include:

Babies transitioning to home from the NICU.

Babies who require short-term supplementation while mother's own milk supply is established.

Infants whose mother is temporarily unable to provide enough milk due to a medical condition, medication, separation, or other temporary circumstances.

Is a Prescription Required?
As demand for Pasteurized Donor Human Milk continues to grow, Mothers' Milk Bank Southeast is committed to ensuring this limited resource is available to the infants who need it most. A prescription from your baby's healthcare provider is required for infants with complex medical needs that require ongoing support. For families seeking short-term supplementation (40 bottles or less), a prescription is not required.
Is Donor Milk Covered by Insurance?
Coverage for Pasteurized Donor Human Milk varies by insurance plan and coverage is limited in the Southeast. We encourage you to contact your insurance carrier directly to determine your eligibility for reimbursement and any documentation they may require.

What is the Fee for Outpatient Donor Milk?
The processing fee is $14.95 per bottle (each bottle is 3.3 oz). The processing fee covers a portion of the significant costs of donor screening, nutritional analysis, pasteurization, microbiological testing, and storage. Financial assistance is available through the Rosie Fund for qualifying households.

How Will I Pay for My Request?
If your request is approved, you will receive an invoice to the email address provided in order to submit payment online for the processing fee and shipping (if applicable).
How Will I Receive My Request?
Pick-Up Option:
At this time, requests can be picked up at 2909 Old Fort Parkway, Suite 105 in Murfreesboro, TN on Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 AM and 3 PM.
Shipping Option:
Cooler boxes of donor milk are shipped overnight with dry ice via FedEx. The shipping charge depends on the weight of the package and your location. If you are a recipient of the Rosie Fund, your order will be shipped at a flat discounted rate of $25. Out of state recipients are subject to a $40 shipping charge. Please note, if you are a Rosie Fund recipient and live within a 30-mile radius of Murfreesboro, TN, you must pick-up your milk or pay the full shipping price.
We are able to ship donor milk Monday through Thursdays for next day delivery.

The Rosie Fund helps ensure that families have equal access to safe, pasteurized donor human milk when financial barriers might otherwise prevent them from obtaining this vital nutrition after leaving the hospital. Assistance is provided on a sliding scale based on annual household income, and proof of income is required.
This financial assistance program was made possible thanks to a generous grant from the HARDY Fund of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. The Rosie Fund is named in honor of Michael and Caleigh Hardy’s daughter, Rosie.
As an Outpatient Program recipient, Rosie’s story represents the profound impact donor milk can have on infant health and family well-being.

How to Submit a Request
1.
Determine the number of 3.3 oz bottles needed.
2.
Review eligibility criteria for the Rosie Fund for financial assistance.
3.
Submit the online request form, upload prescription (if applicable) and proof of income (if applicable). Check your email for our response.
4.
If approved, submit payment for processing fees and shipping (if applicable and not 100% covered by the Rosie Fund).
5.
Schedule your pickup time or shipment. Due to the nature of our work, you must schedule an appointment to receive your request.
